Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave Therapy is a more recently developed treatment modality designed to treat and manage even the most stubborn of soft musculoskeletal problems such as tennis elbow, achilles tendinopathy and plantar fasciitis.
Shockwaves are defined as mechanical acoustic waves characterised by propagating disturbance faster than the local speed of sound of the medium it is travelling through. Sounds complicated... however, imagine a plane flying at high speed breaks the sound barrier, but you hear it and your bedroom window cracks as a result, even though you're 15 miles away...

Shockwave therapy works on a similar principle but a much smaller scale.
How does it work?
-
Lowers the concentration of pain-causing chemicals in the target tissue, bringing on pain relief.
-
Blocks the development of nerve-related inflammation which plays a role in healing tendinopathies.
-
Activates primary muscle cells to repair damaged muscle fibres and increases the expression of cellular growth factors.
What can it treat?
Osteoarthritis & Bone Spurs
Joint degeneration can be horribly painful. Shockwave therapy can prevent cartilage from degrading further and accelerate the catrilage repair process.
Achilles Issues & Plantar Fasciitis
Achilles pain and pain in the sole/heel of the foot is very common, especially in runners and people who work on their feet all day. Shockwave therapy stimulates tissue remodelling to help heal the tendons and fascia in ankles and feet.
Tennis Elbow & Shoulder Problems
Elbow pain and shoulder/rotator cuff issues can affect your everyday life. Shockwave therapy facilitates tendon gliding and reduces erosive wear on soft tissues near bony areas like the elbows.
